 | Around the year 1990 a start was made with the writing of this Pastoral Course. The author in those years was pastor of the Free Evangelical Community in Hilversum. The Lord showed him, that many members did not participate in the community activities, whereas they were not op-posed to these activities. Then from discussions it appeared, that though many wanted to do something, they did not know how to give it content. Then the spontaneous reaction of the pastor was: 'In that case I'm going to give you a three year Pastoral Course for one evening a month.' Because there was nothing concrete available, he wrote one lesson every month with the intention to put this into practice onto his own spiritual life. About sixty people attended this simple Pastoral Course, of which the first lessons are aimed at the student himself, and the second part at giving pastoral help to our fellow human.
Aad van de Sande was born in 1938 in a fine Christian family. After his military service he radically chose for the Lord Jesus, Jesus became not only his Savior, but also the Ruler and Lord of his life. God had a great plan with Aad and his wife Coby. In their marriage no children were born. However, they were both used for very many children to tell them about the great Friend of children, Jesus Christ. |
| Many years they traveled as couple through the whole of the Netherlands to preach the Word of God everywhere in churches and groups. Suddenly, in 1989 the traveling together came to an end, because Coby got her first brain hemorrhage, as a result of which a long agony started for both of them. Already for many years now Coby is being cared for in a nursing home. She is paralyzed for 100%. Still the work for the Lord - and that was Coby's greatest wish - never has stopped, but it has grown to far beyond our borders. Rightly Aad often says in the lessons, that the Pastoral Course just has gained depth through the suffering. All those participating in this Pastoral Course, rejoice about the fact, that there is much fruit by which the Father is glorified (John 15:8). Aad has acquired a rich experience in the years of service for the Lord, in discussions, lectures as well as in a pastoral radio program of the Evangelical Broadcasting Company. Meanwhile this Pastoral Course has been translated in many different languages, a.o. in English, Spanish, Russian and Portuguese. The author's great wish is, that many will apply these practical lessons first to their own spiritual life, and after that will be a useful instrument in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
